You don’t need a philosophy background to compete or coach. Ethics Bowl discussions draw on a small set of core concepts, and we provide accessible resources to help every team learn them, no matter where they’re starting from.

Unlike other debate formats, there’s only one Iowa Ethics Bowl tournament each year, which means there’s only one place you need to travel.

Ethics Bowl cases tap into issues students are already thinking about and debating with their friends, now given structure and stakes. That openness builds a strong bond between teammates. When you start a team, you create a space where students can be themselves and work together to create something greater than the sum of its parts.
